Saints Pancras, Sebastian and James

Updated: 6 days ago

There are two full train days on this trip. Leaving St Pancras early gives us the chance of lunch in Paris before catching the afternoon train to Hendaye where we change to EuskoTren for the short run into San Sebastian. It's dark by the time we arrive. We have a stop over in San Sebastian and catch the Saturday train to Santiago de Compostela which is a 10 hour journey arriving at dusk.

The Route:

St Pancras -Eurostar- Paris (GdN)

Paris Montparnasse -TGV- Hendaye

Hendaye -EuskoTren- San Sebastian

San Sebastian -RENFE- Santiago de Compostela

We were early so we used the RER to Port Royal, had (pre-booked) lunch and walked to Montparnasse.

The San Sebastian to Santiago Train is under threat and may not be running when you read this. The route runs as a luxury train Pricey but still run by RENFE and appears to be the most economical of luxury trains; I appreciate that's a bit of an oxymoron.

Parque de Bonaval is peaceful place with an unusual set of burial chambers, colour coded according the believes of the deceased.
